The numbers have been added up at the AIDS Walk San Francisco office, and I'm happy to announce that our Presbyterian team raised $4,300, which is higher than last year's amount. Yes, we achieved this milestone despite the weak economy! Congratulations, and thank you to all the team members, sponsors, and supporters who helped make this event a success!
I would also like to express a special word of thanks to Arnold Lee and Ricky Choi for getting up very, very early on Sunday morning to set up our BBQ grill before the crowds arrived. Those of you who were able to participate in our post-walk BBQ noticed that we were assigned a great location this year, and the weather cooperated. I am grateful that we had at least nine churches participate on our team this year.
The entire event attracted 25,000 walkers. By now you may have seen the press release, announcing that the total amount raised this year is $3.5 million. While it is unfortunately a decrease of around $900,000 from last year, it reflects the current state of the economy, and is in line with the pattern experienced by AIDS Walk New York a few months ago. We are thankful that the 25,000 were able to still raise this amount despite the weak economy. Rest asured that the 50+ community organizations will still be receiving their grants from the proceeds, as the shortfall will instead be deducted from the amount to be received by the SF AIDS Foundation. I'm also happy to learn that the organization that Ricky Choi (one of our BBQ organizers) works at, has been named as one of the 50+ agencies receiving grants from this year's walk. Congratulations!
Thank you again for helping make the event a success!
