Needless to say, MBCC is very excited to have a full staff on board with the hiring of Pete Feltman as our new Pastoral Assistant for Music. You will be getting to know him better as he gets settled here at MBCC, but in the mean time, here is a little bit about Pete!
A multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter, Pete has a deep love for all kinds of music. He has been writing and performing since the mid 90's when the waves of alternative and hip-hop began to crash all around him through his high school days in Iowa.
A graduate of University of Northern Iowa in theatre/communication/education, after his undergrad he served the Presbyterian Church in Mason City, Iowa as Youth Director - all the while gigging with his band around the midwest.
He came out to the bay area in the summer of 2007 to begin work on his Masters of Divinity at San Francisco Theological Seminary. He immediately began playing in bands and attending open mics and generally immersing himself in the scene. He now plays keyboards in three different bands of varying genres and is hard at work on his own solo project: musical settings to the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke. He also hosts an open mic at Brainwash Cafe every Tuesday night.
Pete believes that everyone has a lot more musical potential than they might realize. Because of this, he likes to encourage people to jump into the song without any fear or preconceived notions of what might happen. Music is intended to be experienced in the moment - and when people begin to commit to that idea they often times begin to experience the Holy Spirit in a simple/profound way. There is nothing that makes Pete happier than joining in communal song with a group of diverse thinkers and doers.
Trivia: He also can't wait to play some intense games of ping-pong with Bruce, in addition to cheering on those awesome Oakland Athletics.
Random Fact: In addition to being known as Ping-Pong and Table Tennis, the game has also gone by the name of Wiff-Waff.
